ConceptBase v.5
From Manfred.Jeusfeld@kub.nl Wed Feb 18 19:14 MET 1998
Dear member of the CB-Forum,
thanks to the efforts of Christoph Quix and the others in the CB development team,
I have the pleasure to announce the first public beta release of
ConceptBase V5.0
being available on the CB-Forum.
You will find it in the folder
CB-Forum / Software / ConceptBase 5.0 (First Public Beta)
The installation is similar for the previous version. However, there is
now only a single Tar-File (containing both the SPARC and the INTEL
versions) that you have to download.
Besides this, you would need to download the file CB_install,
which is the installation script.
Further instructions are in the file
InstallationGuide
In case you are interested in trying out this beta version,
you will have to register. The registration form is in the
folder as well.
This beta release of ConceptBase has already undergone
considerable internal testing. Thus, we expect it to be
pretty stable.
You would not be able to access directly object bases that
you have created with CB 4.1. Instead, you would have to
save the old object base as Telos frames (save model)
and then load it into CB 5.0.
It is in principle possible to have CB 4.1 and CB 5.0
coexist. Just provide double entries in your .cshrc file.
Here is how I did it:
# setenv CB_HOME /home/jeusfeld/CB41/
setenv CB_HOME /home/jeusfeld/CB50beta/
Whenever you switch, you have to execute
% source .cshrc
or start a new C Shell (csh) with the updated .cshrc
file.
We would be very happy if you could give us feedback
on the new release esp. on errors.
You should experience a much better query processing
performance with this release.
Kind greetings,
.-- Manfred Jeusfeld
