Service Science, Management, and Engineering
Guarantor: doc. RNDr. Vlastislav Dohnal, Ph.D.
The discipline connects informatics profession with multidisciplinary view of domains, which help offer information service and service based on utilization of information technology, namely knowledge intensive service. Currently, we can witness the shift from the classical product-oriented paradigm in economy to a new service-oriented paradigm. This is recognized to be very important in business practice. So, this discipline is intended for students who would like to extend their informatics knowledge obtained on the bachelor level in the area of managerial skills, service economy understanding, and the deep insight into informatics fundamentals of service system construction and service systems operation.
Graduates of this program will have basic knowledge of management, selected parts of economy, namely of marketing, practical skills in selected parts from psychology, sociology, and law, and deep knowledge of informatics disciplines which are connected to service provision, service system design, service system construction and operation and service system evolutionary development. Graduates can analyze problems of IT design from a broader perspective to establish the process of value creation based on win-win strategy for customer and IT provider.
This discipline offers students knowledge of management, marketing, law, presentation skills, conceptual modeling, project, program, and portfolio management. The emphasis will be put on aspects of service economy understanding and value co-creation between service customer and service provider. For that reason students have to work on real service-oriented projects in practice during their master study program. These projects are developed and executed by business partner organizations that are contracted by the faculty for this purpose. Business partners support the training of their possible future employees to be useful in practical situations, in this way. The results of Interim Project can also be a starting point for student ́s master thesis assignment.
The Interim Project can be done twofold. Firstly, PA180 Interim Project I + II represents one-semester Interim Project, i.e. 4 days a week for 5 months at a business partner. Secondly, PA185 Interim Project I and PA186 Interim Project II represent two-semester Interim Project, i.e. 2 or 3 days a week for 10 months at a business partner. In both the ways the student obtains 16 ECTS credits in total.
