Security and management of large-scale computer networks

Abstract:
One of the current trends is to connect organizations' information systems to the Internet. First of all, the problems that this action brings with you is undoubtedly security. The lecture will discuss various security options across networks (globally using the firewall) and individual computers. Issues related to the use of 'public' workstations in combination with shared resources (especially disk capacity for user data) will also be mentioned. When managing a small computer network with multiple stations, you do not need to use any special tools. All problems can be solved manually or using simple scripts. In the case of managing hundreds of machines with different OS, this is different. Requirements for tools suitable for network management and an overview of current software designed for these purposes are contained in the second part of the lecture.

Homogenization of data sources

Abstract:
When building integrated decision support systems, users should be able to work with all available relevant data sources. When integrating real data sources, we encounter a heterogeneity problem. For ease of use, it is advantageous to homogenize these data sources. In the seminar we will briefly mention the possible ways of homogenizing the data sources. Emphasis will be placed on the explanation of some features and properties of WOI formalism, on the basis of which heterogeneous data sources can be homogenized at the logical and semantic level of abstraction.

Information technologies in education

Abstract:
The emergence of new technologies, the development of the Internet, and the capabilities of computer technology affect everyday life and, of course, teaching and learning. In the first part of the seminar we will deal with possibilities of using computer technology in teaching practice. The most exciting area is the Internet and the possibilities of its use, both as information databanks as well as in communication technologies and last but not least as a teaching tool. (c) Internet bikes cease to become closed islands. We will get acquainted with several existing and upcoming projects supporting the teaching of both the "Internet" and the Internet. The second part will discuss systems to support teachers and facilitate their work.

Finite Pattern Generation

Abstract:
Pattern classification task is one of the central issues of AI research with innumerable applications. Classical statistical and neural networks based on pattern matching and classification techniques do not yet give satisfactory results on discrete domains. The idea of ​​layering positive and negative patterns of varied length will be described and discussed for various problems in the field of computational linguistics. Method of semiautomatic pattern generation is suggested and its flexibility shown on examples (syllabification, hyphenation).

Timetabling with Constraints

Abstract:
Timetable problem as a joint scheduling and resource allocation problem will be introduced. Description of this problem will focus on university timetabling with emphasis on concrete timetabling problem in our faculty. Basic solution of the problem using Constraint Logic Programming will be presented together with first results and open problems. The second constraint imperative programming approach will be introduced with the help of ILOG optimization software. In the last part, global constraints with variables' annotations will be proposed to solve over-constrained timetabling problems.

HRCM Laboratory and Cell Core Segmentation

Abstract:
At the Faculty of Informatics, a new HRCM (High Resolution Cytometry) laboratory is currently in the process of automated cell analysis. In the first part of the lecture the basic information about this laboratory will be heard. The second part of the lecture will focus on the problem of segmentation of cell nuclei. We will learn how to solve this problem in FISH and highlight its strengths and weaknesses. Finally, we would like to discuss the use of smoothing splines in addressing segmentation tasks.
