Printers and photocopiers at FI

This article describes the printing options available to FI staff, contract staff and PhD students (and, where applicable, other individuals with printing rights). Students can use the paid SUPO printing service. For printing outside FI, please refer to other printers at MU.

Copiers (copy*) allow scanning and copying after logging in with a numeric code. To make copies, you must obtain a six-digit code, which you can request from tajemnice@fi.muni.cz . The code (and with it, the right to make copies) is (from August 2021) issued as valid for all photocopiers.

For scanning, you can also use the general-purpose code 0 and then have the result sent to the address you specify. Please also see the scanners in the PC hall.

Printing from Windows

There are two ways to print:

  • printer sharing via Samba – you can also print over Wi-Fi
  • CUPS print server – you must have the same login on your PC as your faculty login, only when connected via an Ethernet cable

Printer sharing via Samba

Download the installer from the list of printers, under the ‘Samba’ column. Running the installer will add a new printer and install the relevant drivers.

You can also print to a printer installed in this way from the Eduroam or wlan_fi Wi-Fi networks.

  1. Important: Disconnect the system from the network, both wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wi-Fi).
  2. System Settings → Printers and Scanners → Add a printer, scanner or fax → Advanced (whilst holding down the Control key, click between the icons on the toolbar – for example, between the options ‘IP ’ and ‘Windows ’, select ‘upravit panel nástrojů ’ and drag it to the top panel ‘Pokročilé ’)

Printing using IPP + Kerberos

Thanks to Kerberos authentication, you do not need to have the same login on your machine as your faculty login.

It is essential to have the CUPS printing system installed. If you already have CUPS installed for other printers (even outside the Faculty of Informatics), the IPP + Kerberos method is not suitable – please use a different one.

After installing CUPS, you need to add (or edit an existing) entry to the file/etc/cups/client.conf on a separate line:ServerName:

ServerName print.fi.muni.cz

If you previously used pure IPP for printing, you must revoke printing authorisation from your machine; otherwise, Kerberos will not even attempt to be used. Send your request to unix@fi.muni.cz .

Next, configure Kerberos. Install the basic support; on Ubuntu:

You may also encounter problems with the print settings on the photocopiers.

Printing from the command line

Printing from Aisa or Anxur

If printing is not working (because your Kerberos ticket has expired, or you logged in using a key rather than a password), you will need to enter the command `kinit ` and enter your password.

Duplex printing on the Develop ineo+ 451i

The new Develop ineo+ 451i copiers (copy2a, copy3a, copy4a, copy4c) use differently named attributes to configure double-sided printing than is usual. Instead of a single option Page Setup > Layout > Two-sided, you need to select two:

  • Advanced > Finishing Options
    • Print Type:
      • 1-Sided
      • 2-Sided (double-sided printing)
    • Binding Position
      • Left Bind
      • Top Bind (for landscape printing)
      • Right Bind (if you are from Japan)
