Streaming and recording of lecture theatres

The information provided here applies to A217, A218, A318, A319, A320, S108 and, to a limited extent, classrooms outside the Faculty of Informatics. Please send any suggestions or requests for changes to video@fi.muni.cz .

Stream

Sound for the stream is captured by ambient microphones – there is no need to bring a microphone. Sound from the computer is picked up only indirectly, via the aforementioned ambient microphones. The video feed consists primarily of the computer screen’s content, with a smaller inset view of the lectern and blackboard ( PiP – Picture-in-Picture) mode. Unlike the audio, video streaming is conditional upon the lecturer’s activation. Apart from activation, the lecturer has no option to intervene on-site in the status or configuration of the stream.

Video streams from faculty lecture theatres are publicly available: A217, A218, A318, A319, A320, S108. The error message ‘The media could not be loaded’ accompanied by the CESNET logo indicates that the stream is switched off; a black screen with sound indicates that the lecture hall has not been activated. We highlight the option to stream and record from these rooms on their timetable panels.

By default, the stream is enabled only for lectures (the course code does not contain a slash). By default, it is disabled for tutorials (codes containing a slash), non-teaching bookings and during times when no event is scheduled. This setting can be changed on request. For seminars, however, please consider the risk of reduced attendance and also the possibility of students’ presentations at the blackboard being published online.

As a precaution, the stream is switched on 5 minutes before the start of a timetable block and 5 minutes after the end of the block (classes typically end at :50, whilst bookings end at :59).

Recording

Events can only be recorded whilst the stream is active! From spring 2026, recordings will be processed by video.fi.muni.cz from unix@fi (which responds to timetable changes). The existing system at video.muni.cz is now merely running down.

Unedited lecture recordings are automatically uploaded within approximately one hour of the recording ending (every half hour) to the folder/vi/ in the course materials section of the IS, without access for students. When the folder/vi/ is created – i.e. when the first recording is uploaded – lecturers are informed of the option to make the recordings accessible. Subsequent recordings will then also be made accessible. The same applies to tutorials with an explicitly requested stream and recording; these recordings are accessible to all students on the course, not just the specific group (however, access rights to individual recording files can be manually adjusted at a later date). In the event of an exceptional need to prevent the publication of a specific recording, immediately revoke access rights to the ‘/vi/ ’ folder for students in the IS and then discuss the matter with us.

Recordings of non-teaching events will be made available (and, where necessary, edited) upon request. Recordings are edited (in preparation for exams) throughout the semester, subject to availability.
