Mounting the Unix home directory

On student and departmental Windows machines, the Unix home directory from home.fi.muni.cz connects automatically as a network drive accessible under J:, to make a similar connection to a staff/lab machine with a fixed faculty IP address, from classrooms or from a VPN, you need to do the following:

• Press Win + E to open a File Explorer window.
• Choose This PC (or Computer in Windows 7) from the left side of the window
• On the Computer tab, click the Map Network Drive button in the ribbon menu, and then select Map network drive from the popup menu (or just select Map Network Drive on the toolbar in Windows 7)
• Change the Drive letter (or you can leave the default)
• Type \\home.fi.muni.cz\your_login as Folder
• Select Reconnect at logon if you want to automatically restore the connection every time you (start the computer and) log on
• Select Connect using different credentials
• Press Finish
• Type ntfi\your_login as User name, fill in your password and press OK

Similarly, you can connect the /data/your_login directory as \\home.fi.muni.cz\data-your_login (see here and here for more).
