Natural Language Processing (NLP) Center

Room B203

Introducing the Natural Language Processing Center and its artificial inhabitant, Karl Pepper. We will show how large language models allow Pepper to be creative. We'll give you tips on how you can use LLMs for your own learning and research needs, from learning assistance to a discussion partner. We'll take a look behind the scenes of training fundamental language models and find out what data, methods, and technologies are used to do so. Come be inspired by the future of AI and its applications for everyday and academic life.

Natural Language Processing Centre

Data-driven Systems and Applications Laboratory (DISA)

Room A321

What's behind systems that can efficiently search through billions of image collections in a fraction of a second? How to efficiently process over 200 million protein molecules that occupy over 23 terabytes of disk space? And can students engage in interesting projects even if they lack experience?

These and other questions will be answered in our DISA lab, where we apply the latest advances in artificial intelligence to the processing and searching of complex data. In addition to a peek under the hood at real systems, you can also enjoy hands-on demonstrations of searching through people's motion data, 3D structures of protein molecules, and large collections of images.

Systems Biology Laboratory (SYBILA)

Room A418

A new degree programme in Bioinformatics has been created on an interdisciplinary applied discipline basis and will be offered from the academic year 2024/2025.
Discover how we are using informatics to discover previously unknown properties of living matter. Computer models of living organisms and entire populations allow us to conduct experiments beyond the limits of conventional experimental research in biology. We need efficient algorithms and new software tools to create, analyse and simulate such models.

Laboratory of Systems Biology (SYBILA)

Friends of the Nordic Wildlife Society (Zvěřinec)

Room A218

We are a group of people, not only from the Faculty of Computer Science, who share a passion for computer science, natural sciences and their popularisation. Together we organize activities to impart knowledge to high school students in an interesting and fun way and get them excited for further studies. However, we are also behind a number of events for FI students, other university students and the general public.

Our events include the Correspondence Seminar in Computer Science, the K-SCUK Informatics and Biology Camp, the InterLoS online logic competition, the InterSoB city game, or even the Know FI weekend at the faculty premises.

The world in Minecraft by FI MUNI

Room A319

First the faculty, then all of Brno and what's next? Our students use Minecraft to display a variety of real-world environments and explore ways to use more than just this video game for education. Come see how MUNI's FI in Minecraft came to be, what the Emcify project is, and how we got involved in climate change education projects in Ireland.

Excursion 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Centre for Biomedical Image Analysis (CBIA)

Room A320

Come see how we process and digitally image at FI, whether it's simple photos, images of cells under a microscope, or even MRI scans of the brain. You will also see examples of student projects or theses, and you will be able to try some of the analysis yourself.

Into the world with FI MUNI

Room S211

Did you know that students who have done a placement abroad during their studies at FI, for example within the Erasmus+ programme, often remember it as the best experience of their studies? Get to know about the opportunities to go abroad yourself!

Human Computer Interaction & Visualization Lab (HCI&Visitlab)

Room A421

Shared workstation for 2 labs: human-computer interaction and visualization.

The HCI lab deals with new possibilities for human-computer interaction. We are testing and finding applications for technologies such as motion sensing, augmented and virtual reality, and 3D printing. Come and see how the human body can be motion captured, or try out how virtual reality learning can take place.

The Visualization Lab is dedicated to designing visualization methods that help explore and understand context in complex and large datasets. We work with a range of experts in different fields (biochemistry, medicine, education) to provide insight into their data to help speed up or refine their workflows.

IQ Testing

In the morning, in cooperation with Mensa CR, we offer the opportunity to take an IQ test at a discounted price at the faculty premises. A good IQ test result in conjunction with a good grade point average is one of the ways to avoid the FI entrance exams. If you are interested, you must register in advance on the Mensa CR website for one of the dates:

On-site registration may not be possible.

How to get to Mensa IQ testing?

After entering the faculty offices, take the elevator or stairs to the 2nd floor of Building A. Wait outside the classroom before the previous testing date jumps!
