Profile yourself from freshman year
Our faculty offers five different bachelor's degree programmes. By selecting them on your application form, you can decide whether you want to study computer science in a more theoretical, practical, cyber security-focused, biology-related or teacher-oriented way. However, your choice is not final: the first semester or first year is very similar between programmes, so if you find that you would like a different focus, you
can switch between programmes and it should not have a negative impact on the length of your studies.
Study programmes at FI
Don't ask questions, but demonstrate skills
We don't play at memorising facts at FI. In the vast majority of courses, lectures are complemented by
seminars where you try to apply theory to practice, for example in the form of programming assignments. Moreover, these seminars are often led by senior students, so the atmosphere is more relaxed and you are not afraid to ask questions. The courses usually end with practical programming exams, where you have to prove that you can apply the material to a problem.
Have job security
There aren't enough IT experts - you may have heard this phrase before, and it still holds true. Graduates of the Faculty of Computer Science have long been in demand on the job market for their knowledge and skills. It is also not the exception, but rather the rule, that
students find paid employment during their studies, even if only part-time. Compulsory internships in 2 of the 5 degree programmes, where they are required to complete several hundred hours in junior positions in IT companies, can help them to do so.

Work with companies or labs
The Faculty of Informatics is exceptional because of the connection between theory and practice. Companies cooperating with the faculty within the Industry Partners Association can help you gain experience in the above mentioned internship or in writing your thesis. You will also meet company experts in the classroom. You can also put your practical experience to good use in an independent business career. Our students and graduates have been at the origin of companies such as Flowmon Networks, Czechitas, Kentico Software or Comprimato. You can also get involved in research projects in one of the faculty laboratories during your studies.

The second of two Open Days at MUNI's Faculty of Informatics will take place this year on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 10:00 am. It will feature a block of lectures on undergraduate studies, a fair of study programmes led by students, information on the possibilities of continuing master's studies, tours of the faculty and its laboratories, and more.
