Before the actual implementation of RTC, the process of teaching and project had to be developed. Another tool from the IBM Rational family -- Rational Method Composer -- was used for that. The way of creating a process is not difficult at all. Teacher can either choose one of the prepared processes (RUP, Agile, etc.) or create a brand new process, which describes all the specifics of the course.
MotivationHow is the custom lifecycle created?
Firstly, the lecturer sets up the roles taking part in the project. This usually contains students with one specific student selected as team leader and a teacher who is acting as tutor. Next, the activities are defined -- tasks, inputs and outputs, the roles are then connected with activities. Finally, the life cycle is created together with according diagrams and manual.
Lifecycle import experience
RTC offers convenient option of import of a self-made process. The compatibility with Rational Method Composer is not perfect. Hence, few manual edits in the process were needed before we succeeded in importing it to RTC. As for creating the teams, we haven't found a way of making this process automatic. Therefore, we had to create the teams manually.
more about assets of Rational Team ConcertTo satisfy specific project needs, 2 custom process templates for RTC were created using RMC.
